Megan Fox Killing Boys: A Suprisingly Good Idea

I should have known this would work. Granted, I thought the concept of a cheerleader possesed by a demon which makes her kill the guys in her high school was a REALLY cheesy concept. Plus, it was starring Megan Fox, which meant she would be sexing up the camera half naked to appeal to all the guys out there. But, it came from the delightful mind of Diablo Cody, who wowed us all with Juno.

Shame on me for doubting her.

My Road to Becoming a Cake Eater

Thanks in large part to Kristin Stewart's success with Twilight, a little film called The Cake Eaters gained lots of publicity. It is Mary Stuart Masterson's directorial debut, boasting a cast of veteran (Bruce Dern, Elizabeth Ashley) and young talent (Stewart, Aaron Stanford). Upon viewing the trailer, my curiosity was peaked by Stewart, who plays a teenage girl afflicted with Friedreichs Ataxia, a terminal neuro-muscular disorder. I knew what a great actress she was, but I thought her performance in Twilight was not up to par with her talent. The Cake Eaters looked like she was REALLY acting, so I decided to give it a shot.

WB wins case, but loses "Superman" rights

121838__super_l

On Wednesday U.S. District Court Judge Stephen G. Larson ruled that Warner Brothers and DC Comics did not make any "sweetheart" deals in regards to the rights of Superman. Warner Borthers gave DC Comics fair market value for the property. As a result the plaintiffs, the family of Jerome Siegel who co-created Superman, can only sue DC Comics exclusively for profits made from the movies and television shows produced by Warner Brothers.

Warner Brothers viewed the case as a victory despite the judge also ruling that Warner Brothers ownership of the Superman character will go back to the the Siegel family in 2013. This will force Warner Brothers to put a Superman film into production by 2011 at the latest.
As a Superman fan I am neutral in this situation and feel as if no one loses but DC comics. I only hope though that the Siegel family is able to make a deal with Warner Borthers so that they may retain the rights to the character and continue to produce a series which will be a sequel to Smallville, still the highest rated show on the CW.

"Big Fan" Should Have Big Chances Come Award Season

"Big Fan" is screenwriter Robert Siegel's directorial premiere and it looks to be as bold a statement as his previous script, "The Wrestler." in the film Patton Oswalt plays Paul, a huge Giants fan who meets one of his favorite players at a strip club. But do to a misunderstanding the player assaults Paul which put shim in a coma for three days. e is now left with the decision of whether or not to sue his favorite player because it has the potential to hurt the team. The film looks like it dances somewhere between dark comedy and introspective drama. All in all it looks interesting and maybe with this years 10 nomination mark for the Academy Awards, it might have a shot of being in contention.

This Movie is Garbage. Go See it Now: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Review

Transformers_2_optimus_prime

Estimates put the budget for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the follow up to 2007’s Transformers, at just about $200 million. This may seem excessive for a movie based on a line of Hasbro action figures, but when you consider that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is actually three movies in one it doesn’t seem like that much: $66.67 million for a movie is practically nothing!

“What do you mean,” you ask, “by three movies in one?”

Well if you jump the bump, I'll explain.

There’s Weird Sex in Middlesex: HBO to mold it into entertainment

There's Weird Sex in Middlesex
HBO is picking up a series about Jeffrey Eugenide’s novel Middlesex. Once upon a time, I would have said there’s no way this story will work on TV… But people seem to be into weirder and weirder shit these days, so I’m guessing it will be pretty successful.

MORTAAAL KOMBAAAT!

Mortaaal Kombaaat!

Remember Mortal Kombat? It was the original Grand Theft Auto, a game that you’re parents thought was too violent and might turn you into a serial killer. It’s interactive, stimulating, and gratuitously bloody. And it’s back!

An Outbreak of Galifianakisitis

Zach-galifianakis-galifianakisitis-man-witch

The man pictured above has clearly died of Galifianakisitis.

Galifianakisitis is spreading quickly. Symptoms have been compared to a nasty 'Hangover,' which then develops quickly into a dizzy spell, similar to the effects of a 'G-Force', and then, before victims know it, they're 'Out Cold.'

Weight Watchers for Zombies

Weight Watchers for Zombies

This article on the movie Zombieland, which envisions zombies who actually carry around the extra weight from eating all those innocent bystanders and more (these zombies live in a supermarket), made me think what the world of movies would look like if all mythical creatures had to live with real world outcomes.

I had a good laugh at the idea of these figments of our imagination having to contend with the everyday wear and tear of the modern world--witches at the emergency room with brooms stuck up their behinds, magicians waiting for hours on tech support to service a broken wand, and Sleeping Beauties on 1-800-Mattresses.  Anyway, I'll stop this rambling now and show you what I'm talking about--that's right, overweight zombies.

The Woman with the Mind of a Man

The Woman with the Mind of a Man

The Woman with the Mind of a Man 2

Differences between the sexes is not a new topic by any stretch of the imagination; but ever since Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and Lynn Shelton's Humpday hit the scene, there has been more talk than usual about what kind of movies chicks make versus what kind of movies dudes make.

On Shelton, The New York Times’s Michelle Orange came out with an article entitled “She’s a Director Who’s Just Another Dude,” and on Bigelow, Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir wrote:

“Bigelow has directed some of the most visually inventive and exciting films in recent action-cinema history. (Yes, I am willing and even eager to defend ‘Strange Days’ and ‘K-19: The Widowmaker.’ Let's leave that for another time.) She has virtually no interest in the kinds of talky, intimate dramas the world expects female filmmakers to crank out (and her one, only partially successful attempt to move in that direction, ‘The Weight of Water’ in 2000, suggests she shouldn't bother).”

Facebook: The Movie

Facebook_Logo

I am 26 and just barely made it out of college before the Facebook Boom.

My friends and I were on the Facebook train early in its existence but not like the 22 year old girls are these days. They post everything from last night’s party, and I mean everything. I know the day is coming but I have yet to regret a picture on Facebook and nearly all of the pictures on my profile are horrible but that goes for most people.

Now old people are starting to infiltrate Facebook, which has caused me to lose interest in the social networking site.

I do not think poking people is fun anymore, I rarely update my status (I leave that for Twitter, which has taken over my interest and is a much better site due to the privacy), and I used to get excited about a Facebook alert but now there is Facebook Spam! How annoying!

The only reason I use Facebook is to creep on hot girls beach pics. Sorry, but that is the only reason guys are on Facebook.

The Social Network is the title of the Facebook movie and now there is a script to help hype the movie.

Not Just a Walking Potato: The Beaches of Agnès Review

Not Just a Walking Potato The Beaches of Agnes Review

I just can’t see Jean-Luc Godard walking around dressed as a potato as Agnès Varda does in her new documentary, The Beaches of Agnès (Les Plages d’Agnès); I mean, he won’t even take off those dark glasses most of the time.

The beaches in the title refer to the primary location where Varda creates her unique work in this biography through art.  In the process of exploring the invention of her photographs, films, and art installations over the years, her own life takes shape.  Varda achieves her goal of assembling the puzzle of her mind on film. By the end, she has proven her opening hypothesis that if you opened people up, you would find landscapes.  In fact, this is just what she has done—used film to stretch her life onto the wings of a movie screen.  If this metaphor strikes you as outlandish, then you probably won’t enjoy the film.

I Want a Vampire Lover, Dammit

I Want a Vampire Lover

Ruth La Ferla recently wrote an article on the rampant vampire trend in books, movies, and television.  She references the True Blood and Twilight craze and adds that even fashion has been influenced by vampiromania.  No, she's not talking about supermodels with long teeth, she's citing the sudden influx of leather and lace on the catwalk and pale, gothic goddesses on magazine covers.

Let The Man Rest In Peace

Mjrip2 The late great entertainer Michael Jackson has already had sites dedicated to finding 'sights" of him around Neverland Ranch. During a Larry King Live tour of Neverland ranch, there's a figure that walks by on screen or either it's a shadow. I must admit it get gave me chills while I watched the footage as I have a tendency to believe there is an afterlife. It could possibly be MJ walking throughout his Neverland Ranch but what really gets me is apparently their are "conspiracy theorists" who are convinced MJ is not really dead. A la Elvis? Tupac? I know many Michael Jackson fans (including myself) wish they were going through a really awful nightmare of him being gone but please let the man rest in peace. One thing everyone must remember of the great entertainers who've left us that physically their gone but their spirit remains forever.
